Sheffield University's Management School is a multidisciplinary school employing 40 academic staff, who are assisted by a part-time teaching team and 18 support staff. The School's aims and objectives are consistent with the University's mission 'to maintain the highest standards of excellence as a research-led institution, whose staff work at the frontiers of academic enquiry and educate students in a research environment. The School has a strong regional and international orientation, with its Centre for Regional Economic and Enterprise Development enabling research to drive and be driven by new outreach and teaching initiatives and link up with the School's contribution to the South East European Research Centre. In this context, the specific interests and publications of staff members cover knowledge management, enterprise and entrepreneurship, international strategic management, supply chain management, governance, corporate social responsibility and risk in energy and other industries, ethical marketing and the organisation and impact of foreign direct investment.
Dr Robert Huggins
Dr Robert Huggins is Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and Regional Development at the University of Sheffield's Management School, and is Co-Director of the School's Enterprise and Regional Development Unit. Robert's key areas of research include the study of competitiveness, knowledge-based economic development and entrepreneurship, particularly focusing on sub-national levels of policy intervention and analysis, as well as small business management. Dr Huggins is a highly experienced and respected economic research analyst and policy advisor. He has undertaken a wide range of business and economic policy research projects and development initiatives within both a commercial and an academic environment.
Dr Lubica Strakova
Dr Lubica Strakova is a Research Associate on the Managing and Infusing Research Investment and Development (MIRIAD) project funded under FP6. Prior to this she worked as a Researcher on the EC FP6 funded European Research Area in Ageing Research (ERA-AGE) project based at Sociological Studies, University of Sheffield. Her training is in Andragogy and Adult Education and her research interests are in areas of lifelong learning, particularly development of adult education in interaction with labor market needs in the transition economies of Eastern Europe. Her recent interests concern the area of regional development, in particular knowledge creation and transfer. Prior to her academic expertise she has developed broad management experience both in a UK and an international context.
Dr Andrew Johnston
Dr Andrew Johnston is a Research Associate on the Managing and Infusing Research Investment and Development (MIRIAD) project. Based in the Management School at the University of Sheffield, his research interests include knowledge based economic development, innovation and regional economic policy. Andrew's work has looked extensively at the role of external knowledge in the innovation processes of SMEs, specifically in the Yorkshire and Humberside region. Previous to this Andrew was employed as a research fellow at the University of Lincoln where he undertook research on regional economic development across peripheral regions of the UK.
